PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a bacterium belonging to the genus Pseudomonas capable of easily and efficiently decomposing a cyanide compound contained in a waste water or soil under a weak alkaline condition, since it has a metal-cyano complex-decomposing activity, and useful for an environmental purification, etc. SOLUTION: This new microorganism has a decomposing activity of an iron-cyano complex such as potassium ferrocyanide. Further, the bacterium belonging to the genus Pseudomonas is Pseudomonas sp 14SA3-2-5B2 (FERM P-17321) having decomposing activity of the cyanide compound. Further it is preferable to perform a purification treatment of an industrial wastewater containing the cyanide compound by using the above strain. The new microorganism is obtained by suspending 1 g soil collected from various places in a sterilized 0.9% saline, inoculating its supernatant on a ferrocyanide agar plate medium, collecting the formed colonies, again inoculating them on the sterilized ferrocyanide agar plate medium, incubating at 30 deg.C and then separating the formed colonies. |
