PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a covered elastic yarn having excellent feeling, appearance of fabric, durability and wash fastness and suitable for stockings, etc., by using an elastic fiber as a core yarn and winding a specific polyester fiber around the core yarn. SOLUTION: The objective covered elastic yarn is produced by using an elastic fiber such as polyurethane yarn as the core yarn and winding a polybutylene terephthalate fiber having a single fiber fineness of <=2.0 d, a Young's modulus of <=45 g/d and a strength of >=3.5 g/d and/or a polypropylene terephthalate fiber having a single fiber fineness of <=2.0 d, a Young's modulus of <=35 g/d and a strength of >=3.5 g/d around the core yarn. Preferably, the winding number (Y) of the covered elastic yarn satisfies the inequality 9,000/D1/2 >=Y>=5,000.D1/2 (D is the total denier of the polyester fiber) and stockings are produced by using the covered elastic yarn as at least a part of the leg part.
