PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain in high yield and selectively the subject compound useful as e.g. an intermediate for synthesizing medicaments, agrochemicals, etc., by reducing an oxime of trifluoromethyl group-contg. aromatic compound under mild conditions. SOLUTION: This compound, (B) a trifluoromethylbenzylamine of formula II, is obtained by reducing (A) an oxime of formula I (R1 is H, a halogen or trifluoromethyl; R2 is H, an alkyl or aralkyl); wherein the above reduction method is e.g. a catalytic hydrogenation reaction using a heterogeneous catalyst; for example, one of the objective compounds, 4-trifluoromethylbenzylamine is obtained by preparing 4-trifluoromethylbenzaldehyde oxime from 4- trifluoromethylbenzaldehyde and hydroxylamine hydrochloride followed by reducing the oxime. By the way, the component A is prepared by reaction between a trifluoromethylbenzaldehyde of formula III and a hydroxylamine of formula IV.
