PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a work in a position closer to a winding roll and prevent the touch of the shin with a foot guard in a squatting position by protruding and recessing the foot guard along the profile of a drum roll. SOLUTION: In the repair of a winding roll 13, a foot guard 15 in a winder is raised to a position shown by the virtual line along the profile of a drum by extending a cylinder 18 to rotate a rotating arm 16. The work is performed in this state, whereby the work can be performed in a position closer to the winding roll 13, and the shin of a worker never touches the foot guard 15 in a squatting position. After the work is ended, the cylinder 18 is shortened, the rotating arm 16 is rotated to lower and house the foot guard 15 in the position shown by the actual line. According to this, in the repair of the winding roll, the work can be performed in a position closer to the roll, and the work can be safely performed without touching the shin to the foot guard.
