PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stainless steel tube for exhaust gas tube, having a characteristic of higher limiting tube expansion rate than heretofore, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The stainless steel tube for exhaust gas tube is manufactured by successively applying hot rolling, annealing, and cold rolling to a cast steel slab equivalent to SUH409L defined by the JIS standard, forming the resultant steel sheet into cylindrical shape, and then carrying out welding. The stainless steel tube has a characteristic of having >=60% limiting tube expansion rate defined by the following equation: limiting tube expansion rate (EP)=100.(D1-D 0)/D0 (where D0 is an outside diameter before tube expansion of the steel tube; and D1 is an outside diameter after the tube expansion).
