PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ferritic stainless steel improved both in high temperature oxidation resistance and in high temperature tensile strength and also to provide steel wires and fibers of this steel. SOLUTION: The ferritic stainless steel has a composition consisting of, by weight, 0.001-0.500% C, 0.001-0.500% N, 0.3-5.0% Si, 0.2-1.0% Mn, 17.0-32.0% Cr, 0.02-0.60% Ni, 1.0-6.0% Al, 0.5-1.5%; Mo, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and satisfying 0.080<=C+N<=1.000%. Owing to the precipitation strengthening by MC-type carbonitrides by the addition of C and N in the ferritic stainless steel, the steel can be provided with oxidation resistance and tensile strength even in a high temperature region (between 800 deg.C and 100 deg.C). This steel can be most suitably used, in particular, for an inner bladder in a flexible tube as automobile exhaust system parts.
