PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the picture quality of an ultrasonic image by reducing multiple reflection inside an acoustic coupler for an ultrasonic probe. SOLUTION: An acoustic coupling member 14 is loosely inserted into a holder 12. When the acoustic coupling member 14 is used, it is put between the surface of a subject to be examined and the ultrasonic wave receiving surface of an ultrasonic probe 10 and pressed and rolled sideways. Then the acoustic coupling member 14 is forced to columns 20 erected along the frame of the holder 12, so that the side surface of the acoustic coupling member is deformed uneven. When ultrasonic waves hit on the deformed side surface inside the acoustic coupling member 14, the ultrasonic waves are dispersed by the unevenness of the side surface and useless reflection are diffused, so that artifacts are reduced.
