PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apnea detecting apparatus comprising an air-mat disposed under a lying subject's body, a pressure sensor for detecting pressure change inside the air-mat, and a monitor control device for detecting the apneal symptoms of the subject by abstracting and recording biological signals of the subject such as respiration rate, heart rate and snore signal, etc., the monitor control device having a posture judging means for judging the posture of the lying subject and a sleep phase judging means. SOLUTION: This apparatus having an air-mat 1 disposed under a lying subject's body, a pressure sensor 3 for detecting the pressure change inside the air-mat 1 detects the apneal symptoms by abstracting and recording such biological signals as the respiration rate, hear rate and snore signals, etc., from output signals from the pressure sensor 3. And since the apneal symptoms in the sleep are profoundly related to the posture and the depth of the sleep of the subject, the posture of the subject is judged using the value of the gain of an automatic gain control unit 41 for automatically adjusting the level of the output signals of the pressure sensor 3, and the depth of the sleep is judged from the heart rate and the respiration rate while the subject is sleeping.
