The invention relates to a handle for cleaning implement and a method for the manufacture thereof. The handle comprises a hollow composite tube 9 with elongated reinforcing fibres 5 and a resin bonding these together. Such a tubular handle can be manufactured by a pultrusion process, in which resin-wetted fibres are drawn through a die around an inner core 8 in the mould 11. Prior to polymerisation of the resin, an antibacterial substance has been added to the resin, so that in the finished products the molecular structure of the resin contains and includes the antibacterial substance. <IMAGE>
