PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To relay and broadcast image data of an original document without reducing the size of thereof by sending as a procedure signal relay transmitting capacity information, taken into consideration when the size of image data that a relay requesting machine transmits is determined, to the relay requesting machine at the time of termination from the relay requesting machine. SOLUTION: The terminal expects reception, judges whether or not its recording paper is of size A4 when terminating, and sets and stores, e.g. the size A4 as the maximum paper width that the device can receive in its machine receiving capacity table 7a. The terminal judges whether its relay transmitting capacity is the size A4 or not and sets, e.g. the size A4 as its relay transmitting capacity. The size of the relay transmitting capacity of the device is predetermined according to the memory capacity of an image memory 8 and the format. A DIS signal including the maximum paper width of set recording capacity and an NSF signal including the set relay transmitting capacity are transmitted and image data sent from the relay requesting machine are received and stored in the image memory 8.
