PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating device for a switch, capable of stably working with a large contact load obtained by a simple structure. SOLUTION: This operating device for a switch is equipped with an operating rod 3 held so as to be movable in the direction causing a movable contact 2a to make contact with or part from a fixed contact 2b, a movable member 4 movably connected to the rod 3, the amount of movement relative to the rod 3 being regulated within a movable range, a fixed member 5 for movably holding the member 4, an elastic member 6 for energizing the rod 3 in the direction pressing the contact 2a against the contact 2b, a permanent magnet 7 for driving/attracting the member 4 to the member 5, a closing-side magnetic circuit 8 for attracting the member 5 by NS two poles of the magnet 7 in the direction pressing the contact 2a against the contact 2b while the switch is closed with the contact 2a in contact with the contact 2b, an opening-side magnetic circuit 9 for attracting the member 5 by an NS single pole of the magnet 7 in the direction separating the contact 2a from the contact 2b while the switch is opened with the contact 2a kept away from the contact 2b, and an operating electromagnet winding 10 for adjusting the magnetism in the circuits 8, 9.
