<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal device that can compensate retardation individually for each color and can optimize modulation of each color by changing the thickness of the liquid crystal layer at the position corresponding to the respective color of the color filter, by constituting the substrate of a phase difference film and controlling the thickness of the substrate to be different for every color element of the color filter. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal layer L is held between a pair of phase difference film substrates 10, 20. The phase difference film substrates 10, 20 are prepared by uniaxially or biaxially stretching a base film having 100 to 300μm thickness to impart double refraction. Thereby, the thickness of the phase difference film is controlled for every color element to obtain desired double refraction. By controlling the thickness of the phase difference film to obtain the optimum double refraction for each color element, the double refraction can be compensated for every color and coloring by the liquid crystal layer can be eliminated. Thus, coloring in the display or decrease in the contract can be effectively prevented.</p> |
