PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To notify a user of where his or her article such as a bicycle exists and to enable the person to easily detect it by using a detector together with a portable telephone set by detecting a radio wave emitted from the portable telephone set and emitting light or sound when the radio wave is received. SOLUTION: The user of this detector previously adjusts the tuning frequency of a tuning circuit 2a in a self-detection device to the transmission frequency of a possessed portable telephone set. A detection circuit 2b detects the transmission signal of the portable telephone set and outputs a detection signal. A notice signal generation part 3 operates when the detection signal is inputted from the detection circuit 2b and generates the notice signal of a prescribed pattern. A notice part 4 generates sound or light in accordance with the pattern of the notice signal when the notice signal is inputted. Thus, the installed place of a self-bicycle can easily be recognized even in the dark. Since the tuning circuit 2a is installed in a reception part 2 and the tuning frequency can be changed, correspondence can be executed to the change of the type of the portable telephone set.
