Truncated soluble tumor necrosis factor type-I and type-II receptors

Disclosed are proteins, referred to as tumor necrosis factor binding proteins, that modulate the activity of tumor necrosis factor. The truncated soluble tumor necrosis factor receptors are of the formula: R1-[Cys19-Cys103]-R2 Where [Cys19-Cys103] represent residues 19-103 of sTNFR Type-I; R1 is an optionally methionylated amine group of Cys19 or an acid-terminus amino acid residue and R2 is a carboxy group of Cys103 or a carboxy-terminal amino acid residue. Also disclosed are processes for obtaining the tumor necrosis binding proteins by recombinant genetic engineering techniques.
