PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly boil water, even if the level is at the highest water level in a container for generating steam, when the container for generating stream is constituted to pour water in a water storage container from an upper part and to prevent hot water from overflowing due to blowing. SOLUTION: In this humidifier comprising a water storage container 13 capable of pouring water from an upper part, an evaporating container 15 receiving water from the container 13 for setting its water level in the container to the same as that of the container, a pipeline 17 for connecting the container 15 to the container 13, a heater for heating water 5 supplied through the pipeline 17, and a volume contracting member 30 provided in the container 15 to reduce the volume in the container 15, the member 30 has a microminiaturizing cylinder having a plurality of pores an outer periphery, and a volume contracting unit mounted in the cylinder, thereby microminiaturizing bubbles generated by the heater.
