PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal display device in which display quality can be improved. SOLUTION: The counter substrate of a liquid crystal panel is equipped with a plurality of columnar spacers 66 formed at the position facing the scanning wires 34 on an array substrate. Each columnar spacer 66 is formed by the lamination of color filter layers to have decreasing diameters toward its top, and is in contact with the scanning wire on the array substrate through a counter electrode 68 and an alignment film 24. The inclination angle of the side face of the columnar spacer base to the counter substrate surface is <=90 deg. and is specified to twice or less the pretilt angle of the liquid crystal compsn.
