An actuator 3 for the remote operation of a circuit breaker includes an electric mechanism that is energizable to mechanically operate a switch or control of the circuit breaker on command. Otherwise the mechanism is mechanically disengaged from the switch or control so that the switch or control can move freely. The actuator includes a receiver to receive remotely transmitted command signals for the electric mechanism. Previous remote actuators for circuit breakers appear to be installed so that the mechanism is permanently engaged with the control of the switch.
