PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent magnet motor with high torque, and good mechanical strength at a low cost by using both magnetic torque and reluctance torque. SOLUTION: A rotor 10 inside a stator 1 for generating a rotating filed has a permanent magnet 11 with a rectangular cross section. The permanent magnets 11 with the same number as the number of polarity at intervals near a d-axis are provided along an outer circumference of the rotor 10. The longer side of the rectangular cross section of the permanent magnet 11 is put in the d-axis direction, and the longer side has polarity to form the main polarity. A magnetic flux path from one q-axis to another q-axis for the magnetic flux from the stator 1 is secured, and auxiliary polarity is formed on the q-axis side to generate magnetic torque and reluctance torque. Then, holes 12a and 12b (flux barrier) as an air layer between both edges of the permanent magnet 1 and an outer circumference of the rotor 10 are formed between the main polarity and the auxiliary polarity, and a bridge (k) is formed between the flux barriers 12a and 12b and the edge of the permanent magnet 11.
