PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for burning or heat-dissolving waste ion exchange resin suppressing SOx in exhaust gas. SOLUTION: To spent ion exchange resin, water soluble compound (especially acetic acid salt is desirable) including one or more of Ca, Ba and Mg or CaO is added to exchange ions and to combine with exchange base so that the spent ion exchange resin is heat-dissolved or incinerated. The SO2 in the ion exchange resin is fixed as sulfate or sulfide and the generating quantity of SO2 in the exhaust gas is suppressed, so that no fear of generating dew-point corrosion in the exhaust gas system exists and no equipment for a toxic exhaust gas processing is necessary.
