PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an electrophotographic photoreceptor which has high potential by electrification and high sensitivity, undergoes no change in various characteristics even after repeated user and exhibits stable performance by using titanyl oxyphthalocyanine(TiOPc) having a new crystal form obtained by transition crystals using a saturated hydrocarbon solvent containing at least water and naphthalene. SOLUTION: Amorphous titanyl oxyphthalocyanine is treated in a solution containing at least water, naphthalene and a saturated hydrocarbon solvent to produce the objective TiOPc having peaks at 9.5 deg., 13.5 deg., 14.2 deg., 18.0 deg., 24.0 deg. and 27.2 deg. Bragg angles (2θ±0.2 deg.) to CuKαX-rays of 1.541Å. The TiOPc is purified with an acid, alkali, acetone, methanol or water to obtain high purity TiOPc. The objective electrophotographic photoreceptor having good electrophotographic characteristics is manufactured using the high purity TiOPc usable in electrophotographic use.
