PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas discharge panel display device and a gas discharge panel driving method capable of realizing a precise structure and a high luminance. SOLUTION: In the gas discharge panel driving method, a voltage waveform to apply to a group of scanning electrodes at the time of set up at the time of driving a PDP by an intra-field time division intensity level assigning display system is boosted to a voltage which is not lower than 100 V but lower than a discharge starting voltage in a section A2 in a period not longer than 10μsec and after then, boosted to voltage which is not lower than the discharge starting voltage by inclination which is not larger than 9 V/μsec in a section A3. After then, it is lowered to voltage which is not lower than 50 V but lower than the discharge starting voltage in a period not longer than 10μsec in a section A5 and after then, is lowered between 100 to 250μsec by inclination not larger than 9 V/μsec in a section A6. Then, a period in which this set up voltage is applied is set to be not longer than 360μsec.
