PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheets discrimination device which can securely detect paper sheets without mistaking the cut part of paper sheets for a bend part and even if firmness lacks. SOLUTION: Upper/lower transportation rollers 12a, 12b, 13a and 13b transporting a ticket K and the like, a projecting roller 15 and a projecting board 16, which depress and deform one side of the ticket K transported by the upper/lower transportation rollers 12a, 12b, 13a and 13b, in a first direction orthogonal to a transportation direction and the other side of the ticket K in a second direction opposite to the first direction, a light source 18 irradiating the deformed ticket K by the depression of the projecting roller 15 and the projecting board 16 with light, a light reception sensor 19 receiving light emitted from the light source 18 and a control means 20 are installed. It is discriminated whether a gap (a) exists in the ticket K and the like by the light reception of the light reception sensor 19.
