PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the increase of the number of parts, to eliminate a trouble such as the deterioration of an image due to the impurity sticking on a photoreceptor drum, and to remove residual developer remaining on the transfer/ carrying body. SOLUTION: Transfer material is attracted and held by the transfer/carrying body through an electrostatic attracting means, then, the material is carried to a transfer position. At the transfer position, an image formed by developer is transferred to the transfer material. After ending the transfer process, a potential is applied on the electrostatic attracting means by a potential apply means 251 so that an electrostatic force for separating the developer remaining on the transfer/carrying body from the transfer/carrying body may be applied on the developer. Thus, the toner remaining on the transfer/carrying body is removed from the transfer/carrying body when the electrostatic force for separating the toner from the transfer/carrying body is applied on the toner.
