PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a diagnostic image with very stable tone reproduction in long-term running processing with an automatic processing machine and to reduce the amount of a replenisher by using a developing solution containing a dihydroxybenzene developing agent and at least one compound selected from specified compounds. SOLUTION: A developing solution containing a dihydroxybenzene developing agent and at least one compound selected from compounds of formulae I-IV is used. In the formula I, R7 is alkyl, alkenyl or aryl, R8 is a divalent combining group and A4 is an acid group. In the formula II, each of L4 and L5 is a divalent combining group and each of M4 and M5 is a cation. In the formula III, each of R9 and R11 is alkyl, aryl, a heterocyclic group, alkoxy, alkenyl or hydroxy and R10 is H or alkyl. In the formula IV, L6 is a divalent combining group and A5 is an acid group.
