PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a stable detecting performance without being affected by the material of a connecting tube and irregularity of the connecting tube surface, by providing a probe to send and receive an ultrasonic wave, a means of generating a moving signal, stopper and a probe moving scanner. SOLUTION: A probe 18 to send and receive an ultrasonic wave is provided as a means of detecting existence of a cable 2. If a pulse-shaped transmitting signal is applied to the probe 18 from the transmitting part 12 of a detector body 11, the ultrasonic wave is transmitted from the probe 18, is permeated into a connecting tube 1 through a coupling medium, is returned back to the probe 18 by being reflected by the inner surface of the connecting tube 1 and is received as a boundary surface echo. If the cable 2 exists, the ultrasonic wave is permeated into stranded wires 2a, is returned back to the probe 18 by being reflected at the boundary of plural stranded wires 2a and is received as a bottom surface echo. Accordingly, a gate marker formed in a gate part 14 is set at the rear of the boundary surface echo, and the existence of the cable 2 can be detected by sensing the bottom surface echo of the stranded wires 2a.
