PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make well inputtable characters such as KANJI (Chinese characters) to an electronic equipment having a limited space where the operation keys, etc., are arranged by selecting a 1st pronunciation element and a 2nd pronunciation element that is combined with the 1st pronunciation element according to the 1st and 2nd direction indications and a final decision indication. SOLUTION: A user turns a rotary operation part 34 to give an underline to a desired character to be inputted in a state where characters to be selected are displayed. A CPU judges the turning direction and the turning quantity of the part 34 and varies the KANJI display state according to the judged result. The user depresses the part 34 by looking at the display contents of a display part 40 after an underline is given to the desired character. When the CPU judges the depressing operation of the user, it decides the KANJI having an underline as the character that is selected to be inputted.
