PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the spacing between substrates to be joined uniform over the entire part of the substrate and to prevent the degradation in display image quality in a display device by previously curving the surface on the liquid crystal side of either one substrate of the two substrates to be joined according to the relative camber quantity of the two substrates. SOLUTION: This process for producing the liquid crystal device consists in applying a sealing material (14) at the peripheral edge of the one substrate of the two substrates (11 and 12) varying in the quantity of thermal expansion from each other when heated under the same conditions, bringing the other substrate opposite and closer thereto, irradiating the sealing material with light or heat rays to cure the sealing material and joining the two substrate apart a proper spacing held therebetween, in which the surface (the surface of a reflection electrode 13 if the one substrate of the two substrates to be joined is the substrate having the reflection electrode) on the liquid crystal side of either one substrate is previously curved according to the relative camber quantity of the two substrates.
