PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow short time joint for mass production by friction-pressing a negative electrode vessel flange and a positive electrode vessel flange to only one surface of an upper portion of an insulating ring. SOLUTION: In this sodium-sulfur battery, sodium of a negative electrode active material 8 and sulfur of a positive electrode active material 9 are separated from each other and stored through a sodium-ion-conductive solid electrolyte pipe 2. Anα-alumina-made insulating ring 1 is soldered with an upper portion of the solid electrolyte pipe 2. A metallic negative electrode vessel flange 6 and a positive electrode vessel flange 7 are friction-pressed onto only one surface of an upper portion of the insulating ring 1. Thus, design or a jig is not required for protecting the solid electrolyte pipe 2 glass-soldered with the lower portion of the insulating ring 1, and frictional pressing can be easily performed. Therefore, the frictional pressing can be carried out in a short time, and mass production of a battery can be realized.
