PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a device in which an image processing means can be selected in accordance with the contents of data sent from a host computer by providing a control means for selecting one of first and second image processing means in accordance with inputted image data and making it operate. For example, when interpreted PDL data are image data, this image processor starts a color space converting processor 13 to execute color space processing by hardware when the length of the scanning line direction of the image data is judged to exceed a prescribed threshold value. When the length is judged not to exceed, color space processing is executed by a routine in an image processing software 30, namely software. That is, proper processing is selected in accordance with image data.
