PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disc device in which the procedure for adjusting focus balance is simplified and focus balance can be adjusted in a short time, and a method for adjusting focus balance. SOLUTION: After setting an initial bias voltage value, a specified positive bias voltage value is added to that bias voltage value and when a phase error detection pulse goes High, the bias voltage A is stored (S1-S4). After setting an initial bias voltage value again, a specified negative bias voltage value is added to that bias voltage value and when a phase error detection pulse goes High, the bias voltage B is stored (S5-S8). Subsequently, a bias voltage value for possibly minimizing the phase error voltage is outputted as (A+B)/2 (S9). That output voltage is added as a bias to the target value of focus servo.
