The invention relates to a method for connecting two or more work pieces with riveting elements. A rivet (1) is pressed into the work pieces (2, 3) by means of a pressing movement. The method is characterised in that a pivoting movement around the longitudinal axis (6) of the rivet is superimposed on the pressing movement when the rivet (1) is pressed in. A riveting-drilling procedure takes place when the pressing movement is superimposed by the pivoting movement and during joining. The combination of simultaneous pressing and drilling in one work step guarantees that the rivet can penetrate in such a way as to cause little or no damage while cost-effective prepunching is not required.
