Suppression engine control unit (60) suppresses vibration due to backlash, by mutually interchanging driving and driven condition between engine (12) and continuously variable transmission (14). Control period of control unit (60) and output of engine are determined by engine control units (56,58) based on gear change ratio and vehicle velocity which influences engine friction to prevent backlash.
