The invention concerns an airport lighting system embedded in the ground and comprising light sources with light emitting diodes arranged at several levels which associated with a combination of mechanical and optical means enables to provide above-average illumination in outstanding conditions of reliability. The invention is applicable to all types of airport ground lighting systems.
