The spring element (11) is fixed in the axial direction of the plug-socket connection unit (1) supporting at abutment (15) to provide necessary contact pressure as well as to hold the surrounding section (13) of the optical waveguide (2) held in the sleeve (5). A device meshing with the encasement (22) of the optical waveguide forms a positive connection effective in the axial direction between holding section (12) and encasement. The spring element is a flat band spring, with holding section (13) formed in meander shape that can be compressed against the spring in a U-shaped recess (20) for receiving the optical waveguide with its encasement. The recess has a funnel-shaped insertion inlet. Spring chamber is sub-divided into contact pressure chamber (9) and holding chamber (10). A snap-in catch (16) on the spring element meshes with a stop recess (17) of plug housing (3).
