Production of porous composite material comprises breaking up plant lignin-containing starting material under pressure and temperature and encapsulating the fibers with a calcium/magnesium carbonate film by adding a mixture of calcium/magnesium oxide and silicate hydrates by introducing carbon dioxide. Preferred Process: Pre-treated wood fiber is used to produce a hardened fiber-reinforced composite material.
