The device for reducing the noise of a machine with variable torque and gearwheel drive comprises a free wheel device connected between the gearwheel and the drive shaft. This may consist of a ball race whose outer ring (7) is driven by the gearwheel and whose inner ring (10) is connected to the machine tool. Spherical roller bearings (9) are arranged between them in a cage (8). By locking this the machine can be disconnected from its drive.
