The invention relates to a method for detecting the location and time of the incidence of a light spot. According to the inventive method, the light spot produces a luminous surface on an image intensifier. The intensity of said luminous surface on the image intensifier slowly fades with time. In order to determine the spatial coordinates (x, y, z) of the light spot, the size and position of the luminous surface on the image intensifier are measured. The x + y coordinates are derived from the position of the luminous surface on the image intensifier and the z coordinate is derived from the geometrical dimensions of the luminous surface. In order to determine the duration of luminosity of the light spot, the amount of the luminous intensity of the luminous surface is detected over a certain period of time in relation to the total luminous intensity, said total luminous intensity being presumed a known quantity.
