The engagement shaft guide and seal is for a road vehicle gearbox and has a rotary and longitudinally movable engagement shaft (1) in a gear housing (2), with a guide socket (4) and a dynamic lip seal for the engagement shaft in a bearer (3) connected with the gear housing. The engagement shaft is movable by a switch fork (6). An axially stretchable and compressible static seal (7) extends between the switch fork and the bearer over the variable distance between the switch fork and the lip seal. The static seal is formed by a telephone arrangement (7) comprising at least two rigid ring components pushable one in the other and drawable apart against stops. The arrangement is tensioned in the drawn apart position by a spring.
