The system has an air sack (10) that can be inflated from a folded installed state when triggered and at least one gas generator for generating the required quantity of gas for inflating the air sack. The air sack can be filled with foam in at least part of its vol. by foaming plastic particles activated by the gas from the gas generator to form a rigid structure (11) after hardening as an impact protection structure.
