A sealing, trimming or finishing strip is secured in position against a mounting surface 22 using magnetic and adhesive means. The adhesive means 32,34 may be a double-sided tape or a cross-linked adhesive. The magnetic means may be provided by magnetic strips 40,42,44,46 which can have a trapezoidal cross-section. The magnetic means 40,42,44,46 may hold the adhesive 32,34 in compression against the mounting surface 22. If used in conjunction with a cross-linking adhesive the magnets 40,42,44,46 can hold the strip against the mounting surface 22 during cross-linking. The magnetic means 40,42,44,46 can hold the strip in place if the adhesive means 32,34 fail due to temperature changes, for example. The strip may be have a conventional door seal configuration: a channel-shaped carrier part formed by parallel walls 30A,30B hinged together 31, a soil tubular sealing part 10, and a cosmetic lip 20.
