PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retaining device which can be used on an existing vacuum drum. SOLUTION: This retaining device 30 is for retaining a printing plate 14 on the cylindrical face 12 of a vacuum drum and has a curved surface part which fits and seals the cylindrical face 12 of the vacuum drum 10. In addition, the retaining device 30 is retained at an appropriate spot by differential pressure. One of the end parts 14B of the printing plate 14 is received below a lip extending along the retaining device 30. Since the retaining device 30 is lightweight, the balance of the drum 10 is not seriously influenced, even when the retaining device 30 is not present at the same position on the drum 10. The retaining device 30 is manufactured at a low cost and is less susceptible of damage than a prior art clamp, when an accident occurs.
