PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for automatically and efficiently forming the rough layout of printed matter on the basis of data on distribution of printed and divided pages being the arrangement data of contents to be contained in each of the pages of printed matter. SOLUTION: A fitted grid pattern is searched and extracted from a plurality of grid patterns P prepared in a data base on the basis of the printed matter setting data (including distribution of printed and divided pages data) of objective printed matter. The searching is executed by utilizing the adopting condition C corresponding to each of the grid patterns and a grid pattern having the adopting condition C fitted to the searching condition F determined on the basis of the printed matter setting data is extracted. Contents to be contained in each page are arranged according to the alloting rule R of the extracted grid pattern to form a rough layout. When a plurality of the grid patterns P are extracted, the contents to be contained in each page are further rearranged on the basis of the evaluation value of design effect or the like to be displayed and, therefore, further narrowing is easy. |
