CURABLE EPOXY RESIN COMPOSITION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a curable epoxy resin composition which has a high curing density, an excellent mechanical strength and excellent heat resistance and can express good flame retardancy, hydrophilicity and electric insulation by adding a calixarene compound as a cross-linking agent. SOLUTION: This curable epoxy resin composition contains a calixarene compound as a crosslinking agent. The calixarene compound includes calixarene, calixresorcinolarene and the ester or silylether derivatives of the hydroxyl groups of the compounds. For example, an epoxy resin cured product of formula III can be obtained by crosslinking p-methylcalix[6]arene of formula I with a bisphenol type epoxy resin of formula II. The epoxy resin and the calixarene compound as the crosslinking agent are preferably added in a ratio of 10:0.1 to 10:100. The composition may furthermore contain a catalyst.
