PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely cut a material such as timber along a predetermined cutting line even if a worker is not skilled in the handling of a saw and moreover to cut the material in such a manner that a sectional cut surface thereof has a good squareness. SOLUTION: The guide plate for hand-held saw 1 comprises a metal guide member 2 and a holding tool 3 connected to the member 2. A plurality of holes 4 for receiving a magnet are formed in a flat surface 2a of the member 2 so that a magnet 5 is detachably and movably put into each of the holes. The member 2 slidably attracts a hand-held saw 9 to guide a side surface thereof and is mounted and fixed on a timber 10 to be cut using the holding tool 3. If the saw 9 is brought into close contact with a surface 2a of the member 2 and slidably moved, with the edge thereof being pressed against the timber 10, the timber 10 can be cut at the same level as the surface 2a.
