PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cooling a rooting zone of a medium for culturing horticultural products in a greenhouse by the latent heat associated with evaporation of water. SOLUTION: This method cools a rooting zone of a culture medium by the latent heat associated with evaporation of water, wherein a container containing a medium for culturing horticultural products is covered with a water-absorptive sheet, and water is supplied to the sheet to be absorbed thereby and evaporated when the sheet comes into contact with the ambient air. This device is equipped with (A) a nonwoven fabric 5, 5a as the water-absorptive sheet which covers a container 3, 3a containing a medium 2 for culturing horticultural products in such a way to come into contact with its outer surfaces and to extend outward from part of the container 3, 3a, and (B) water-supplying means 6, 10 which supply water to the part of the nonwoven fabric 5, 5a extending outward from the container 3, 3a, to cool the rooting zone of the culture medium 2 by the latent heat associated with evaporation of water from the nonwoven fabric 5, 5a which absorbs water via the container 3, 3a.
