PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyarylene sulfide resin composition which generates an extremely small amount of corrosive gas even at high temperatures and hence is almost insusceptible to discoloration due to scorching by a gas, generates little baked resins, has very good dimensional stability, and thus is markedly suited to driving devices for objective lenses and other optical instrument parts. SOLUTION: The composition comprises (A) 100 pts.wt. of polyarylene sulfide and (B) 0.01-5.0 pts.wt. of a product from a compound containing an element selected from the group consisting of groups IIA and IIB in the Periodic Table and showing a pH of 10.0-12.0 when mixed with twenty times its amount (weight) of ultrapure water of the A4 type specified in JIS K0557.
