PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject dendrimer with wide liquid crystal temperature range, capable of easily orienting mesogens by reaction between a specific polyfunctional amine compound and a specific liquid crystalline acrylic ester derivative. SOLUTION: This dendrimer is such one as to be composed of a structural unit of formula I [R is a group of formula II ((n) is 5-12)], which is obtained by reaction between a polyfunctional amine compound of formula III and a liquid crystalline acrylic ester derivative of formula IV in an organic solvent; for example, 10-(4'-cyanobiphenyloxy)decyl acrylate as a derivative of formula IV is reacted with a polypropylene dendrimer in the presence of tetrahydrofuran. The dendrimer thus obtained functions as a thermotropic liquid crystal, easily causing orientation of mesogens compared to the case of side chain-type liquid crystals, and enabling smectic A phase to be manifested as liquid crystal phase.
