PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a designing method for a helicoidal motor or a heicoidal pump having low contact pressure of a contact surface, having no unevenness of surface pressure and having low friction of a rope when a stator of the helicoidal motor or the helicoidal pump and lobes of a rotor are brought into contact with each other. SOLUTION: A helicoidal motor or a helicoidal pump is designed so that the following expression may be satisfied: NR+1=NS, (NR-1)RR/NR+E=(NS-1) RS/NS, SmaxR=2((NS-1)RS/NS+E-r), NR/NS=((NR-1)RR/NR+E-r)/((NS-1)RS/ NS+E-r), when the number of lobes of a rotor of the helicoidal motor or the helicoidal pump is taken as NR, when the number of lobes of a stator of the helicoidal motor or the helicoidal pump is taken as NS, the basic diameter of the lobe is taken as RR, the basic diameter of the stator is taken as RS, the eccentric amount of the central part of the rotor is taken as E, the locus diameter of the lobe and the stator is taken as r, and the maximum radius of the stator is taken as SmaxR.
