PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exactly maintain an exhaust air fuel ratio to a desired air fuel ratio. SOLUTION: In a combustion chamber 5, a fuel injection valve 30 for injecting fuel is provided. When an air fuel ratio of exhaust gas is detected to be a preliminarily fixed air fuel ratio, fuel of different quantity by preliminarily fixed quantity for reference quantity is injected from the fuel injection valve 30. Subsequently, fuel quantity to be injected from the fuel injection valve 30 is changed so that the air fuel ratio of exhaust gas may be the preliminarily fixed air fuel ratio.
