PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrict generation of vibrations caused by a reciprocation of a carriage and improve a recording speed by setting a carriage-moving means for reciprocating the carriage with a recording means loaded in a main scanning direction, and a moving means for a medium-transferring means for reciprocating the medium-transferring means in the main scanning direction. SOLUTION: A carriage 102 to which a recording head 101 with an ink tank is loaded is reciprocated along a guide shaft 103 in a main scanning direction and moved by the rotation of an endless belt 104 by a carriage motor 105. When recording is started, recording media 106 are sent one by one from a paper feed port 116a onto a medium-transferring means 108 and transferred by every predetermined amount in a sub scanning direction by the transferring means 108, whereby images are recorded by the recording head 101. The medium-transferring means 108 is coupled to the belt 104 at the opposite side to the carriage 102 and reciprocated in a direction opposite to a movement direction of the carriage by driving the carriage motor 105.
